PostSubject: Eyup new kid here.   Sat Jan 29, 2011 5:36 am

Hello everyone
My name is Tom and i just bought myself an f-reg sj 413 with a vitara 1.6 8v (carb) engine fitted and variouse other mods.
I have had a 4x4 befor,i had a vitara 1.6 injection. Was loads of fun off roading it although it wasnt really set up for it with road tyres ect. This time i plan to have a go properly!

At the moment my sj has a side exit exhaust with just one small box . I dont think it is realy an advantage for it to be this loud and i suspect it will be effecting the running of the engine. So in the morning im going to make a new exhaust (chop and weld etc) from a few exhausts i picked up cheap from the car spares. I am planning to have three boxs in total front ,mid and rear. The diameter of the pipe is aprox 45mm which i beleave to be about right.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Cheers Tom

welcome tomm. I'm only in new whitt. There's a few lanes round chesterfield area. me and vitara mad did a good lane a couple of months back near holymoorside. richard wants to try it again uphill though. i was on my side nearly on the way down. it was only the bank that kept me from rolling over. have a look at my thread. video of a landcruiser going down it. made it look easy, i had to go first, which was fun!!!!! Not

Sounds good, i'll take a look at that when i get more time . ive got to go out in a min. Im also thinking of making a external roll cage. Ive got a mig just woundering what steel would be best t use and where to get it from. Ive noticed your a welder so i guess your the man to ask Smile .

cds tube is used in rollcages. blue and redband. its expensive but it may save your life one day.
what amp welder you got? you got a mandrel bender or hydraulic?
if i were to choose a type of rollcage tubing it would be high pressure steam pipe or red band. its not cheap by any means but its worth it in the end.
cds is lighter tube, ideal for keeping the weight down, but it deforms quite easily.
red band (thicker wall, around 3.5mm ) is better at taking a good roll over due to the wall thickness. its coated in red oxide.

hope this helps a bit
